Health for All Campaign

The Health for All Coalition is a coalition made up of over 100 immigrant justice, labor, and health care groups in California organizing to end unjust exclusions of undocumented immigrants from health coverage. In the last decade, we have ended the exclusion of undocumented immigrants from Medi-Cal, the state-based Medicaid program that allows income-eligible individuals and families to enroll in health coverage. This has resulted in over 1 million individuals, who previously were excluded from Medi-Cal simply because of immigration status, gaining access to coverage. We continue the fight to end the exclusion of undocumented immigrants from being able to purchase a health care coverage plan through Covered CA by directing the state apply for a 1332 federal waiver, a move that has already been done in states such as Washington.

I was the digital communications lead for the campaign and worked on campaign branding, graphic design (social media assets, logo design, document design etc.), digital/cultural organizing, working with directly impacted immigrants on spokesperson training and development, social media actions for the coalition, and overall digital communications strategy. Below are bilingual Valentine’s grams I created for a digital day of action in 2021 targeting Governor Gavin Newsom, the most highly engaged digital action in the campaign’s then nine-year history, and videos I created with storytellers for a digital week of action in 2021 to pressure the Governor to sign our bill. Of particular highlight is the spokesperson development with Jonatan Gutierrez. We met over social media and after being trained on and creating his testimonial video, we were able to media train him, place his story in an LA Times article, and have him speak at a press conference celebrating the passage of the bill, which allowed his parents to access health coverage.
